The Belgian Council of State has changed the law set by the royal decree of December 21, 2018 with regard to the advertising allowed for gambling.
The decree severely limited the advertising allowed by casinos and online gambling halls, but gave more freedom to sports betting sites.
Rocoluc, an operator of online and physical gambling halls, won its case by arguing that casinos and sports betting operate in the same market. The State argued that casino-type games were more dangerous than sports betting and should be more limited in their promotions, something that the Council of State rejected, ruling instead that the two forms of betting were at the same level in terms of risks.
Another new ruling prohibits bonuses in online gaming sites for unfair competition compared to physical games of chance that are not allowed bonuses.
